Dr. Scalia has requested Sugarland Ranch’s assistance in re-homing two Neos who have come upon unfortunate circumstances & returned to Del Feudo Nisseno.  Dr. Scalia and his wife have made a decision to re-home them with Sugarland Ranch’s assistance.  The following Neos are available for adoption to qualified homes.  If you believe you may be the right fit for any of these beautiful animals, complete a Sugarland Ranch “Family Profile” and either mail it to Sugarland Ranch (3510 Matterhorn Blvd., Reno, NV   89506) or fax it to Sugarland at 1-775-970-5183.  http://www.sugarlandranch.org

Medea

“MEDEA” (black Female) is a 4 yr. old Neapolitan female Mastiff.  “Medea’s” story is heartbreaking.  She was given to a Del Feudo Nisseno’s friend as a stud fee.  The friend also owned the Sire to the litter (“Medea’s” Dad).  The friend, who loved her very much, was killed in a car accident one year back leaving her under the care of a family member until Dr. Scalia and his wife could facilitate returning her to Del Feudo Nisseno.  By the time, she was returned to Del Feudo Nisseno, she had lost the majority of her vision due to a chronic corneal condition that has not progressed any further since she returned to Del Feudo Nisseno.  Dr. Scalia and his wife offered to care for her until a home could be found.  “Medea” is a sweetheart but throughout the last year, and before she was returned to Del Feudo Nisseno, she has lost most of her sight.  She has a very good sense of orientation and she adapts easily to new places.  She is good with people and with other dogs (males).  Initially, she tends to mark her new territory to recognize the smells and make them familiar to her.  Therefore, Dr. Scalia recommends having her in an open large, spacious, metal crate when indoors (depending on the set-up of her new home & until she becomes oriented) and in a fenced space with no major obstacles when outdoors.  She loves to be with people, groomed and just plain loved.  If you think you have the right setting for her, please contact Sugarland Ranch and complete our “Family Profile”.

“Fenice” (blue Female) is a very fine specimen of the breed.  She is 5 yrs. old.  She has a tough but gentle character.  She is tough with strangers (she is a top notch guardian) and she is quite prudent at first with people when introduced.  When introduced to her, no jumping over her or rushing towards her since she would definitely not like that!  Just allow her to come and smell you initially.  “Fenice” has always had a knee problem which is compatible with her laid back lifestyle.  She requires a setting with relatively flat ground and no stairs or steep hills.  Based on her first experiences with kids, she has a tendency not to tolerate children.  Her ideal setting is a financially stable family w/out children, a couple or individual with proven large breed experience and the possibility to spend time with her as part of their family.

Please -- before you make a decision to consider a Neapolitan Mastiff or for that matter any Mastiff, please preview the information about Mastiffs on both the Sugarland and Del Feudo Nisseno websites.
